Email from Tate to Colby...

Hey what’s up. What has been your most spiritual experience in the mission field been so far? And what has been the funniest experience in the mission field been so far? The funniest thing that has happened to me is doing the Walmart prank. The most spiritual experience for me has been going to seminary with Max because he is good at bringing the spirit. By the way the Rams are 2-0. Hope you’re doing good!

Love Tate

Colby's response...

Wassup Tate quΓ© lo que?

The most spiritual experience so far has probably been testifying of the First Vision in spanish, of the Book of Mormon, and of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Just seeing how deeply these messages can touch peoples hearts is crazy. There have been so many times when people just start tearing up from hearing this message its super cool to see, but one time in particular was with my boy Jonathan that I baptized about a month ago, hes 18 years old. We were teaching him about the Atonement and we were reading Alma 7:11-12 with him. I was bearing my testimomy of Christs atonement and when I looked up into Jonathans eyes I was shocked when I saw him tearing up, cuz I would never expect that from him. The power of the holy ghost is super strong and is the only thing that can lead to conversion.

Theres been a bunch of random funny things but one that happened just last night was in the middle of a lesson while teaching Jonathan's mom who isnt a member, his dad who ks like 60 just stands up and pulls his pants down for no reason and everyone just starts dying... and he wasnt wearing boxers underneath or anything, but thankfully it was just a side view so we didnt see anything too bad lol... super random, latinos are crazy and weird tbh

Rams are winning the chip, I said

Email from Sara to Colby...

Hey,

I hope you are doing great! This past week I tried out for Les Mis and got called back for one of the leads Eponine! So on Thursday it would mean a lot if you said lots of prayers for me because that’s when my second callback is! There were about 4 or 5 sophomores called back and then the rest were mostly seniors and a few juniors.  So that’s pretty cool.

Also I have a few questions for you.

What have been the biggest cultural adjustments for you?

And what is something you prefer there but not here?

hope you have a nice day!

Colby's response...

Hey Sara hope everythings well,

Congrats on les mis, I'll pray for you thursday... if i remember haha

The biggest culture shock has probably been the houses, everyone lives in super humble circumstances its been a huge shock, just living in shacks with dirt floors in the middle of nowhere in the jungle

And the coke here is way better than in the us

Email from Sammy to Colby...

Hi Colby,

I hope you're doing well and having a good time. I have a flag football game today. We got crushed in our last game. I am having fun playing. In my scripture study we have been reading about how the Lord gives us trials for our good and if we ask, he can help us. Is the food good? What does the mountain look like, is it small or big? I hope you keep being successful and keep getting people to teach. Hope you have a good time in El Salvador.

-Sammy

Colby's response...

Thanks Sammy hope everythings good with you guys too. Your question about the mountains, yes the mountains are big. Also the foods pretty good overall, especially the pupusas.

I want you to read in D&C 122:5-9, it's only 5 verses but they're super powerful. It relates to us having trials in this life and how they will be for our good. In this section God is talking to Joseph Smith while he's in liberty jail, and giving him hope in his tribulations.

Hope you're doing great Sammy and keep being awesome. Hey and practice 2k so i have some competition when I get back.

Email from JJ to Colby...

Hi Colby,

Guess what? I started piano 🎹 lessons last week. I know how to play Mary has a Little Lamb πŸ‘.

Yesterday at church πŸ• we learned there being opposition in all things. What do you think that means?πŸ€” I think it means to see the good and the bad parts of our life so that we can learn and be happy.

Have you seen any volcanoes? πŸŒ‹

Why did the old lady cross the road to go to the temple? πŸ‘΅ πŸ›£️

To help the people on the other side! ⚰️

Love you,

JJ

Colby's response...

Lets go JJ youre gonna be the next mozart keep it up!! I've been playing the piano at the church a little bit and the trumpet from one of the young men in our ward, being able to read music is a super great talent to have

About opposition in all things, I want you to read 2 Nephi 2:22-25. We use those verses whenever we're teaching an investigator about the Fall of Adam and Eve or just the purpose of life in general. Those verses are super great to have in preparing to be a futute missionary

No I havent seen volcanoes yet I dont think. Or at least not active ones

Hope youre doing great JJ

Thought I would include part of Colby's response to Uncle Chris' email here too because I think it's worth having as part of Colby's missionary journal (which is what this blog is meant to be) πŸ₯°...

Your words and the talk from Elder Uchtdorf are so true. Every Sunday we hope that it goes perfect, and when it doesnt we're discouraged, but I try to remember that the Spirit and the love is the only thing that truly matters.

We had an hermana that was evangelica come to church with us last week during fast sunday, and she left before the first hour was even over. Because it was fast sunday, any of the members could go up and speak, and some of the testimonies werent the most uplifting or awesome. So when we saw her leave out of nowhere we were super discouraged because we had been spending multiple hours each week just traveling to visit her because she lives super deep in the jungle in the middle of nowhere, and we thought all of our efforts had been for nothing. This past week we visited her multiple times and we found out that she doesnt hate us and she is very interested in learning more. She has tons of questions and some doubts, but shes still willing to listen so thats all we can ask for.
